1. Website help

This page contains general help and information about the international staff website.  If you have a specific query that is not addressed here then please use the contact us form.

2. Moving around the site

The headings on the left hand side of the page are the main sections of the site and you can access more detailed information by clicking here.  When you are in a specific section, the section menu appears both on the left hand side (under the section you have just clicked on) and on the web page you are viewing.  There may be links within each page and some link to external sites (these will open a new window) and others link to pages within this site.

A ‘breadcrumb trail’ below the top bar shows you the steps you have taken to get to the page you are currently on. For example, it might say:

You are in the University of Leeds: Homepage>Pre-arrival essentials

Each of these items is also a link, so as well as showing you where you are in the website, the ‘breadcrumb trail’ allows you to go ‘up’ one or more sections.

3. Local and national content

If you wish to view both national content and content specific to your university and local area then choose the relevant institution form the drop-down box on the homepage.  You can also de-select the university of choice here (if you choose not to view local content).

4. Browser support

Older browsers are unfortunately not able to take advantage of current technology so the site may not look as it should if you are using one.  However, the information should still be accessible.  We encourage all users to update their browser to the latest version.  Known browser issues include:

Internet Explorer and Netscape versions 4 and earlier – the pages will be displayed in a line down the page, with the menus first and then the content.

Internet Explorer 5.0 (Windows) – The links in the top menu may appear without dividing spaces.

5. Size of text

If you prefer to view larger or smaller text, you can change the text size using your browser.  In Internet Explorer this is done by going to the top menu and selecting ‘View’, then ‘Text Size’.  Similar facilities exist in other browsers, normally on the ‘View’ menu.

6. Searching

You may be able to find the answer to your question by entering a ‘keyword’ into the search box at the bottom left hand corner of the site.

7. Printing from this website

This site has been set up so that if you are using a modern browser, when you print a page the printout will not include the menus or sidebars.  If the page title and address don’t appear on your printout, you can set your browser to add them.  This is usually done by choosing ‘Page Setup’ from the ‘File’ menu, or you can check your browser’s ‘Help’ menu to find out how to do this.

8. Broken links or other problems

If you would like to report a broken link or any other issue then please use the ‘contact us’ form.
